BIOSKETCH:
    Dr. Smoron attended Loyola University from 1962 to 1969 and received his M.D. degree. He interned at Evanston Hospital and then completed a residency in Therapeutic Radiology at Northwestern Memorial Hospital (both of Northwestern University) in 1973. Dr. Smoron served as Lt.Cdr. in the U.S. Navy on active duty from 1973 to 1975 as Director of both the Departments of Nuclear Medicine and Radiation Therapy at the Great Lakes Naval Regional Medical Center. During this time, he received teaching appointments from both George Washington University and Northwestern University. He presently holds an appointment as Assistant Professor of Radiology at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. He was attending radiation oncologist at Northwestern Memorial Hospital from 1975 to 1981. In 1981, he accepted the position as Medical Director of Radiation Oncology at St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin where he still practices.

    Dr. Smoron was certified by the American Board of Radiology in 1974. He was elected Fellow of the American College of Radiology in 1987 and the American College of Radiation Oncology in 2001. He is past president of the Chicago Radiological Society and serves on the Executive Committee of the Illinois Radiological Society and the Governor's Radiation Technology Advisory Board. He lives in Lake Forest with his wife Joan, in close proximity to three of their six grandchildren.
